King Band Shell in beautiful Oleson Park. Admission is free, courtesy of the City of Fort Dodge. Conductor of the Band is Jerrold P. Jimmerson, with Dan Cassady as the Assistant Conductor and Duane “Oley” Olson the announcer. There will be an ice cream social, starting around 6:30 pm, provided by the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.
Beginning at 7:00 pm, the popular area Brass Quintet, Jive For Five, will provide their own special type of music before the start of the King Band’s concert. Members of this group, also members of the King Band, include Tim Miller, Humboldt, trumpet; David Swaroff, Dayton, trumpet; Kathy Yoakam, Humboldt, French Horn; Dan Cassady, Fort Dodge, trombone; and Paul Bloomquist, Dayton, tuba. All these members teach in area schools, and have been performing together for the past several years.
The Karl L. King Municipal Band will feature a variety of marches, classical works, and popular selections during their hour-long concert. Selections by King are always on the program, and this week, audiences will hear Sells-Floto Triumphal and The Iowa Band Law March along with Homestretch Galop. In addition, the King Band will perform the Repasz Band March, and a Henry Fillmore novelty, Shoutin’ Liza Trombone.
The evening’s overture presentation is Pique Dame, written by the father of Austrian operettas, Franz von Suppe. Also on the program will be Ballet Egyptien, a suite of four songs written by the French composer, Alexandre Luigini. A lighter selection on the program will be the Cole Porter standard, Anything Goes.
In case of inclement weather after 7:15, this concert may be cancelled at the last minute.
